Most often you can find everything that you need at your local DIY store. Most of the stores provide their customers with the necessary tools to cut the wood at the dimensions you need, so you do not have to do it at home. However, if you need a customized piece of wood, we recommend you take the design to your local carpenter, he will be able to cut the wooden piece in any shape or form you desire.

Depending on the design you choose, besides wood, you will need varnish or paint and in some instances, both. If you do not want to alter the natural appearance of the wood, you can use varnish. If you want a specific color for your new headboard you can use paint.
